Stressing
the Rule of Law
A
state will not enjoy stablility and its citizens will not
enjoy their rights if there is no rule of law. The rule of
law means full obedience to the law and full abidance by its
terms. It means the obedience of officials and citizens
voluntarily, those who promulgate laws should respect these
laws before the rest of the citizens and be an example to
them.
The
rule of law means that there is no authority above the
authority of law. It means that law prevents the practice of
arbitrary rule that has no restraints and respects none
other than democratic guarantees or immunities. It is
important because it prevents selectivity from becoming a
general policy in the administration. It means that the
state treats citizens with complete neutrality and equality.
Whenever an authority violates the law, it is held
accountable.
These
principles, derived from the belief in the rule of law,
should govern every action by any authority, in order to
build trust between citizens and the government. These
principles pave the way for the establishment of the rule of
law and as a consequence guarantee the rights and freedoms
of citizens. There should be a judiciary that monitors the
state’s actions, ensures citizens’ exorcism of their
rights and their enjoyment of their freedoms.
